To produce sweater, panel machines are operated. The operator works on the instructions which are given, adjusts the cam and knits each row accordingly. More amount of labor is involved than a computerized machine but still more efficient than hand knitting. The major advantage is the cost saving on the yarns. It is very low when one compares it to a handloom machine. This is because a broken yarn can be detected quickly, and fixed on the spot. If the cost of material is high, use hand loom machines for production will be much cheaper.
Then there is cost saving on the machine. Handloom machine is much economical than a computerized machine. The labor cost may be a tinge higher, it is still better to break even if the cost of labor is low and when it is done in countries like India or China. Now coming to the disadvantage part of it. Limited knitting capabilities are being offered by these forms of machines and it is less in variety. To create complicated patterns, the needles have to be removed more frequently, and it would be too time consuming and impossible to do also sometimes.
Consistency in quality is another issue which needs to be addressed as well. Each machine is operated by a different person and though there are ways to control quality, the variance in this regard is considerably large. Computerized knitting machine They are programmed to run automatically. To set it up, the technician studies the design and specifications of the sweater, and then it is translated into a computer program. The machine is able to read the program and knit the sweater panels according to the design.
The advantages associated with it are you are bound to get variety of finishes and stitches. Complicated patterns can only be achieved in this form of machine. As regards quality, the consistency of it can only be maintained if this machine is used. Since all the machines operate on the same program, there is less variance in the quality aspect. Last but not the least important aspect is the efficiency part. An operator is only required to operate 6 to 7 machines. He needs to constantly monitor any variance in the activity of the machine and bring it to the notice. He could also make adjustments and work accordingly.
